Conditions in Templates
In Acumbamail, you can now adapt the content of the email sent in your campaigns, showing or hiding rows for each subscriber based on the value of the fields in the list.
This complements the personalization that could already be achieved through content tags and is configured by creating conditions that are linked to the rows of your templates associated with a campaign.

Access to functionality
This functionality is enabled in the template editor during the campaign creation process, as long as the account has an enabled payment plan.
Therefore, it will not be available for free accounts.
What are the conditions in templates
As indicated in the introduction, until now it was possible to customize the email sent for each subscriber within the same campaign including content tags. This allows including personalized texts or values for each subscriber (name, different URL, etc.).
If you wanted to adapt the design and not just texts, it was necessary to create different campaigns and send each of them to different segments of the recipient list.
Now, with template conditions, it is possible to also adapt the design within the context of the same campaign. This adaptation is applicable at the row level.
Thus, when creating a condition and linking it to a row, that row will only appear in the final email sent if the subscriber meets the condition. Therefore, within the same campaign, several versions of the email will have been sent, including more or fewer rows.
Where conditions can be created
The first thing to keep in mind is that conditions are dependent on the fields of a list. Therefore, it is only possible to link conditions to rows within the editor in the context of creating a campaign. Consequently:
- From the Emails > Templates section, it is not possible to assign conditions to rows when editing "loose" templates (not linked to a campaign).
- From the SMTP > Templates section, it is also not possible to assign conditions.
On the other hand, in relation to campaigns, it is possible to create conditions in classic campaigns, RSS campaigns and autoresponder campaigns. A/B test campaigns and automations do not support conditions at the moment, as it is not possible to edit the template in the creation process, only select already created templates.
Finally, within the template editor, it is possible to save a row for reuse in other designs. In this case, the following considerations apply:
- When saving a custom row (synchronized or not) if it has a condition linked in the original template from which it is created, this is automatically removed. That is, the version of the saved row will never have a condition linked.
- When using a saved row (dragging it to a template), if it is not synchronized, it will be possible to link a condition to it. In case it is synchronized, it will only be possible to link a condition if it is unlinked before synchronization.
How to create a condition
Within the template editor, you have to select the row.
Once selected, you have to go within the editor to the Dynamic Content section.
Here, there are two ways to create the condition:
- Using predefined conditions, or
- Creating your own custom condition
Predefined conditions
The predefined conditions are created based on the segments that already exist in the recipient list of the campaign. All segments that consist of a single condition are taken into consideration.
To choose a predefined segment, you have to click on "Select condition".
Next, a popup appears where you have to select the segment of interest under the "Segments" category.
Once the predefined condition is selected, it will be reflected in the "Dynamic Content" section of the editor.
Custom conditions
It is possible to create a condition from scratch. The procedure is similar to the one applied when creating a segment, but in this case only a condition per row based on a list field can be applied. Thus, there are three elements that are part of the condition:
- The list field that will be taken into account.
- The applicable operator, which depends on the type assigned to the field (text, number, boolean, etc).
- The specific value assigned to the condition and that will be compared according to the chosen operator with the value that field has for each subscriber.
In this case, you have to click on "Edit condition".
Next, a popup appears where you can:
- Assign an identifying name to the condition
- Choose the list field
- Choose the comparison operator
- Enter the specific value to compare with the value of the field for each subscriber.
Once the custom condition is created, it will be reflected in the "Dynamic Content" section of the editor.
Limitations
Regarding the creation of conditions, the following should be considered:
- Only one condition per row can be assigned, based on a single list field.
- A condition cannot be linked if the row contains the unsubscribe link.
- The campaign must have a single recipient list, otherwise conditions cannot be linked to the rows of the template.
Regarding certain actions that can be executed on campaigns, lists and templates, the following should be considered:
- If a campaign whose template contains conditions is duplicated, these are maintained in the duplicated campaign.
- If the recipient list of a campaign in editing with conditions is changed, these are automatically removed from the template.
- If the template linked to a campaign in editing is changed and it contained conditions, these are automatically removed from the template that is unlinked.
- If a new template is created by duplicating another that contains conditions, these conditions are not maintained in the new duplicated template.
Preview of an email with conditions
This section describes what to expect when viewing the content of an email from a campaign that contains conditions in different parts of the application.
Campaign in editing
In the design step, within the editor, it is possible to preview the content, selecting for this which of all the conditions would be active.
In the final summary step (before sending the campaign), when sending a test email, it is also possible to select which conditions would be active.
In the final summary step (before sending the campaign), when previewing the email content, all rows are included, ignoring the conditions. This does not reflect the behavior at the time of sending.
Likewise, when performing a spam test or a preview across different browsers and devices, all rows in the design are considered, regardless of the conditions.
Sent Campaign Report
For an already sent campaign, it is possible to view the email that was delivered. In this case, you can also preselect which of the conditions would be active when generating the preview.
In the case of the clicks map, all design rows will be displayed, regardless of the conditions.
