Introduction

In order to use the Cloud API, calls are made to Meta's Graph API to send messages, and Webhooks are used to receive events, such as status updates and messages.

To make these calls to the Graph API, a series of access tokens is required.

Access tokens

Access tokens allow your application to access the Graph API. Almost all Graph API endpoints require an access token of some kind, so every time you access an endpoint, the request may require one.

  • They allow us to identify the application, the user using it, and the type of data to which that user has granted the application access.

How to connect your WhatsApp Business account with Acumbamail

First, log in to your developer account, or to Meta Business Suite.

If you access through the second link, go to your application from the Accounts / Applications option that you will find in the left-hand side menu.

Access your application and click on the "Open in App Dashboard" option.

If you access from the first link, make sure you have selected the application you are going to configure.

Below we indicate where to find the data needed to configure your account

  1. Application ID

This is your Meta Developer ID and you will find it when accessing your application.

An application access token is used to read and modify the application settings, and is generated using a Meta application secret key.

Acumbamail needs this ID to associate your account with our webhook. This way we can provide you with information about the status of your sends, among other things.

  1. Phone number ID

Each WhatsApp account has an associated phone number. Remember that your messages will be sent through this number.

The phone number ID is required for sending messages.

  1. Account ID

The account ID is required to identify Meta's responses regarding your sends.

To access these IDs, go to the WhatsApp / API Setup option that you will find in the left-hand side menu.

The IDs are shown in the panel on the right.

  1. App Token

Access the Facebook tokens tool.

This token is required for creating messages and templates.

  1. Access Token

Also called a system user access token. Meta recommends using system user access tokens to access the Cloud API, so we need to create a system user:

  1. Log in to Meta Business Suite.
  2. Find the business account in the drop-down menu at the top left and click the Settings icon.
  3. Click Business settings.
  4. Go to Users > System users.
  5. Click the Add button and create an administrator or employee system user.

To generate the system user access token after creating a system user, do the following:

  1. Select the system user you just created from the list.
  2. Click the Generate new token button.
  3. Select the application that will use the token.
  4. Select when this token will expire.

By default, it is 60 days (as recommended by Meta), but remember, you will have to generate another token again after this time and modify it in your WhatsApp settings in Acumbamail.

  1. Select the "business_management", "whatsapp_business_messaging" and "whatsapp_business_management" permissions
  2. Finally, click Generate token

Copy this token into Access Token.

Acumbamail uses this token to subscribe to our webhook.
